It seems like everyone wants a website or they want to have one built. For those who don't have a web site it might seem like a challenging task, to start a one. In reality, starting a website can be very simple.

There are essentially three steps to building every website.

• Domain name
• Web Hosting
• The Website Code/Design

Let's look at each of these steps and break them down into simple explanations and explain to you how they come together.

Domain Name

A domain name is usually a .com, .net, or .org web address that visitors use to find your website on the internet. The most popular top level domain (TLD) is .com. Domain names are sold annually, so when you register your domain name, you will have it for one year or longer if you choose and will have the first option to renew it, unless you purchased multiple years up front. When starting your website it's important to find a good domain name that represents your brand or business and is easy to remember.

Web Hosting

After you have your domain name registered, the next step is to get your web hosting package. At Internet Domain Management, we recommend startng with our less expensive Economy hosting plans. For a few bucks a month you can build your business and then upgrade later if you need it. An exception to this would be if you need custom software or packages such as live video streaming that aren't offered in a shared hosting environment. In that case, a VPS ( Virtual Private Server) or Dedicated Server might be a better solution.

Most web hosting providers like Internet Domain Management, provide a control panel to make it easy to administer your website. Thus giving you more control over your business.

Website Coding/Design

There are many ways to build a website. A website is usually a collection of files that is coded with HTML, and contains image and video elements that is located on a server. It's possible to create a website using just a text editor like Notepad, but for beginners it's usually best to use software geared for web development such as Dreamweaver. You can download free software for creating a website such as KompoZer, or use Internet Domain Managements Website Builder.

If you choose not to use our Website Builder, you can create and edit your web site locally on your machine. Once your website is complete, you can then upload your web pages through FTP to your web hosting account so it's visible on the web to everyone who goes to your domain name.
